Audie's Room

And it looks like it only took over a year for me to write something that "other people might like to read about." :) A lot has changed since June of 2010. John and I have had a very busy year, but the most exciting thing is that I am currently 31 weeks pregnant (and am feeling every bit as big as I look)! We are very excited about the upcoming arrival of our little man and have kind of been working our tushies off to get his room ready. So, I figured I'd post some pictures of the (almost) finished project. When registering for baby things, we didn't see any crib bedding that we liked, so I decided to get ambitious and purchase fabric to MAKE all of the bedding myself. I have a VERY short list of past sewing projects (all of which required the help of someone more experienced), so I was wondering if this was really something I could do all on my own. I am pleased to say that the end result is not perfect by any means, but so darn cute! When choosing the fabrics, I brought along three little friends I purchased at IKEA for inspiration. I really liked their colors, so I figured that was a good place to start.

I knew I wanted to do six wall dots (tutorial found here), so I needed to find six coordinating fabrics. The rest just kind of blossomed from there.

Since I am in love with children's books, I wanted to do a collection of framed illustrations from various books on the wall above the crib. I ended up purchasing about six frames at Goodwill (I had the others already), and after sanding and multiple coats of paint on each, this is the result:

Since I wanted a more practical closet, we took down the standard wire shelf, and John's uncle installed a bookshelf and two smaller shelves on either side (all purchased at IKEA). He also put in two dowel rods on the right side and one on the left side for hanging clothes. I really liked the way it turned out and am excited to have so much extra storage.

P.S. Our "little man" is Audie and will hopefully be coming sometime close to my due date, September 13th.
